QualPro's Government Origin

MVT® was developed by QualPro CEO, Dr. Charles Holland, while working in the Nuclear Weapons Industry. Over thirty years ago, Dr. Holland worked at a nuclear weapons facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The plant produced carbon foam castings for a vital defense application. With a dismal 15% acceptance rate, the operation could not meet production demands. This shortcoming jeopardized the entire defense program. Defects ranged from cracks and fractures to voids, all of which made the product completely unusable. Managers were desperate for an increase in acceptable output, even considering building an additional multi-million dollar plant. Yield was so low that the plant manager was unwilling to halt normal operations to test Holland's theory. Consequently, the only time available to experiment with Dr. Holland's original MVT® (multivariable testing) process was one over-time shift on a weekend.

After quickly testing ideas for solving the problem and implementing the changes, product acceptance jumped to 50% without a dime of capital investment or new hiring. A second experiment brought product acceptance up to 85%, and a third to 95%. A final improvement resulted in a five-year run without a single reject. The operations went from a dismal 15% product acceptance rate to 100% through MVT® experimentation!

In 1982, at the urging of quality guru W. Edwards Deming, Dr. Holland founded QualPro, an MVT® training and consulting firm. Over the last two decades, QualPro consultants have assisted clients in implementing MVT® at over 1000 companies, including many of the Fortune 500. Whether you need rapid breakthrough improvement in manufacturing processes, service processes, administration processes or even communications processes, MVT® is the right answer.
