A "Standard" System for Newspaper Ad Design Increases Sales and Reduces Costs AutoNation As one of the largest buyers of newspaper advertising in the U.S. (greater than $100 million annually), AutoNation is very interested in maximizing sales that result from their print ad investment. In an entrepreneurial environment with a great deal of variation market-to-market and brand-to-brand, this MVT® effort developed a "standard" system for designing newspaper ad layouts and merchandising vehicles. Implementation of the right newspaper ads has substantially increased AutoNation sales while lowering the average ad cost. Triple the Production Rate with Lower Raw Material Cost, Decreased Scrap, and Zero Capital Dollars Pregis, Kalamazoo A major customer of Pregis presented them with a challenge-"We want more of your product than you can currently deliver." In an effort that was completed in only a few weeks, a Pregis MVT® project identified several improvement actions, including a way to totally eliminate a bottleneck step in the process. The end result was that they tripled their production rate, while lowering raw material cost, decreasing scrap, and expending zero capital dollars. Installation/Repair Timeliness Dramatically Improved and Sustained for Five Years AT&T In 2001, it was critical that AT&T's Midwest Region reduce the backlog of consumer repair and installation orders in its five states. Due to weather and other difficulties, the backlog had grown to well over 100,000. Regulatory concerns were high and customer pressure was intense. A concentrated MVT® effort identified tactics that drove the backlog down to historically low levels in an astoundingly short period of time. Now, five years later, this workshop told the story of the continued effort. An ongoing focus on implementing the MVT® findings across 30,000 employees has driven the backlog even further down and sustained it at less than 15% of the original level. Improving Operating Room Efficiency Using MVT® Blount Memorial Hospital The leadership team of Blount Memorial Hospital, a 300 licensed bed hospital in Maryville, Tennessee, desired to improve operating room efficiency. In four months they used MVT® to investigate 22 improvement ideas. Five actions were identified to reduce non-productive time by over 26.2% and turnover time by over 42.7%, creating capacity for $4.85 million in additional cases per year. This is a great example of how MVT® can make breakthrough improvements in surgery department efficiency in a short time. Customer Churn Reduced 20% Directo Directo provides bank accounts to "unbankable" high risk and transient workers. It was critical to Directo that it reduce its churn rate (portion of customers lost). With a churn rate that resulted in turnover of one-in-ten of its valuable customers, Directo launched an MVT® project to better retain its customers. After implementing the MVT® findings, customer churn was reduced by 20%. This is an excellent example of applying MVT® to a small business with a new, high-growth product. Lead Generation Tripled in Outbound Call Center Deluxe - BECU Deluxe and BECU desired to improve the productivity and profitability of an outbound calling center where calls were made to auto loan customers in order to upsell other bank products. After completing the MVT® process and implementing the findings, the portion of customers reached doubled from 30% to more than 60%. Even more impressively, the rate of lead generation tripled! This is a very good illustration of the level of improvement that may be possible in outbound call centers, especially when a third party is involved in making the calls. Business Growth Achieved Through Customer Satisfaction Premier Boxboard Limited Premier Boxboard Limited, LLC produces premium paper for the wall board manufacturing industry. A key customer asked them to make changes to their paper which would enable the customer to change their process and significantly reduce their unscheduled downtime. The problem was that neither Premier nor their customer knew exactly what changes to make! This presentation will describe how Premier and their customer orchestrated the MVT® process across two facilities, in two different states, to achieve a major breakthrough that will be extremely beneficial to both organizations. Achieving Emergency Department Efficiency Using MVT® Blount Memorial Hospital Blount Memorial used MVT® to improve the experience of emergency department patients by treating patients faster and more effectively. Blount Memorial's Emergency Department handles over 40,000 patients per year, and in just four months they identified ways to decrease door-to-doctor time by 39.3% and total turnaround time by 17.2%. This is an excellent example of how MVT® can improve things in a fast-paced, hectic environment and overcome organizational barriers. Ten Years of Performance Improvement Deluxe This workshop will summarize a decade of relentless performance improvement using MVT® by the nation's leading check printer. Deluxe's MVT® accomplishments have covered the entire business including improvements in order taking, order entry, automated systems, software design and delivery, check errors, customer care, field sales, call centers, new product design/pricing, advertising materials, and marketing strategies. Attendees learned how broad and creative an improvement effort may be and how to sustain the value of the effort year after year. |
